Teaching Practice

We are an accredited Training Practice which means that we meet the high standards of clinical care set by the East of England Deanery to teach medical students and qualified doctors in their foundation and specialist years. You may be asked to see one of them and your agreement ensures that our future doctors get the necessary experience and are well trained. All learners are closely supervised by one of our permanent GPs.

The GP Registrars are fully qualified doctors and have a great deal of medical experience. They are attached to the practice for up to 12 months and usually become general practitioners after completing their training. As part of their final training they are encouraged to seek advice when required from the practice doctors. The GP Registrars are required to produce video recordings of some of their consultations as part of their training. You will be asked for your consent prior to any such consultation and the consultation is strictly confidential between the Registrar and their Trainer.

The practice is registered under the Data Protection Act 1998. All patients registering with this practice have their details held on the computerised clinical system as well as in manual records. Data held on the computer may be accessed by healthcare professionals as part of your care to ensure correct management of your medication. Non-identifiable data may be used for audit purposes. If you do not wish them to look at your records, please inform reception. All information is kept completely confidential. If you would like access to your medical records, Contact the Practice Secretary, Alvys Billington, on 01727 738564 for further details. There will be a charge made in line with current legislation.

Compliments and Complaints

The Lodge and Highfield Surgeries aim to provide you with the best possible service within our available resources. We welcome feedback and have a Patient Participation Group who are regularly asked for their views on the Practice.

If you want to contact the Practice Manager, Jenny Simmons, directly with a compliment, suggestion or complaint then please telephone 01727 738563 or email jenny.simmons@nhs.net. Please take care when emailing personal details as the internet is not protected for confidentiality.

If you are dissatisfied with the service you have received then we would want to look into the matter further and, where appropriate, improve our care and put right any problems. Below is our Practice Complaints Procedure which details how formal complaints will be investigated and responded to. This demonstrates our commitment to taking complaints seriously and gives further information on your rights as a patient or carer.

Rights and Responsibilities

We aim to treat all patients and visitors with dignity and respect. In return, we expect the same for our staff. Abuse and violence will not be tolerated and can result in patients being removed from the Practice list.

The Practice is registered under the Data Protection Act 1998. Patient details are held on the computerised clinical system as well as paper records. Information will not be disclosed without the patient’s written consent. Under the terms of this Act, you have the right to access your records subject to the fee as set out by the legislation. Contact the Practice Secretary, Alvys Billington, on 01727 738564 for further details.

Car Parking

Whilst both surgeries have a car park, we cannot guarantee that there will always be space available. In particular, the Lodge Surgery gets very busy in the mornings. Please consider alternative travel or give yourself plenty of time as you may need to wait for someone to leave.
