Your Child's Vaccination Appointment
Key Information
- Vital Protection: Vaccinations are the safest way to protect your child from serious diseases like measles, meningitis, and polio. They also help protect the wider community.
- What to Expect: The appointment is quick. For babies under one, the injection is usually in the thigh. For older children, it is in the upper arm.
- Preparation Tips:
- The Red Book: Please remember to bring your child's Personal Child Health Record (Red Book) so we can record the details.
- Clothing: Dress your baby in loose, easy-to-remove clothing (like a vest with poppers) to make the process smoother.
- Comfort: It is best to hold your child on your knee during the jab. A cuddle from you is the best comfort.
- Aftercare: It is normal for the area to look red or for your child to have a slight fever afterwards. This shows their immune system is responding.
