The Children's Flu Vaccine
Key Information
- Flu Is Not Just a Bad Cold: Flu can make children very unwell and may lead to complications such as bronchitis.
- The Importance: The children’s flu vaccine protects your child and helps protect the people around them.
- The Method: For most children, the vaccine is a quick, painless nasal spray rather than an injection.
The "Umbrella" Effect
Think of the flu virus like a rainstorm. The vaccine gives your child their own personal umbrella, helping to keep them safe.
There is also a wider benefit. When lots of children are protected, they help create a shield for vulnerable people in the community, such as newborn babies or grandparents.
A Quick, Painless Spray
Many parents and children worry about injections, but for most children, the flu vaccine is just a quick spray into each nostril.
- It is not scary.
- Many children say it feels like a tickle.
- Mild side effects, such as a runny nose, can happen but usually pass quickly.
The children’s flu vaccine is a safe and effective way to help keep your child and family well this winter.
