Carers Support
Are You a Carer?
- A carer is someone who provides regular, unpaid help to another person due to illness, disability, or their age. This ranges from helping with daily tasks and medication to providing practical or emotional support.
- Letting us know that you are a carer allows us to look after your health needs, too.
- When we know you are a carer, we can offer you a free health assessment, an annual flu vaccine, and be more flexible with appointments where possible.
- Let us know about your caring role by contacting reception.
If you are a carer, please fill out the following form.
What Happens Next?
If you regularly help a friend, neighbour, or family member, you may be in a caring role. To register as a carer with us, all you need to do is inform our reception team.
Carers can be any age. It is important to let us know if you are under 18 and in a caring role. Once you are registered, we will add a secure note to your medical record.
This makes sure our whole team is aware of your role and can provide the right support. We can also help connect you to expert services, such as a formal Carer's Assessment with the
council or local support organisations.

Young Carers Offer
From 1 April 2026, Hertfordshire County Council is proud to be delivering young carers support in-house, bringing this vital service fully within council provision as the contract with Carers in Hertfordshire came to an end.
This change strengthens our commitment to young carers by embedding support directly into council services, helping us work even more closely with children, families and partners across Hertfordshire.
Support for adult carers will continue to be delivered by Carers in Hertfordshire, with no change to that service.
A new Young Carers webpage has been developed in collaboration with young carers and their families and includes information about the support available, team contact details, and ‘a Day in the Life of’ form to register a young carer online so that they can get the support they need.
Hertfordshire County Council has contacted all registered young carers directly to welcome them, provide updated contact information, details on how to access support, and a link to the new webpage.
National Support

They work to improve support, services and recognition for anyone living with the challenges of caring, unpaid, for a family member or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or addiction problems. Their vision is that unpaid carers count and can access the help they need to live their lives.
